How to Reach

Tawang  is a very beautiful but remote hill station near the Indo-China border. Reaching Tawang takes some planning because there is no railway station or airport directly in Tawang.

Here are the main routes:

1 By Air

Nearest Airport: Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (Guwahati, Assam)   App. 480 km away

Itanagar Airport (Donyi Polo Airport, Hollongi) App. 440km

Other Option: Salonibari Airport (Tezpur, Assam) 330 km away, but flights are limited.

From Guwahati/Tezpur → travel by road (shared taxi, Sumo, or private vehicle).

2 By Train

Nearest Railway Station: Rangapara North (Assam) or Tezpur Railway Station.

You can also reach Guwahati Railway Station (major junction) and then proceed by road.

3 By Road

This is the most common way.

Guwahati → Tawang (approx. 14–16 hours, 480 km).
Route: Guwahati →  Bhalukpong → Bomdila → Dirang → Tawang.

Roads are hilly and scenic but can be tough (especially in snow/rain).
